Shine Tom Chacko Claims Widespread Drug Use in Malayalam Film Industry

Actor Shine Tom Chacko has reportedly informed police that drug use is rampant within the Malayalam film industry and that several prominent actors are involved. However, he claims that only he and one other actor are being publicly targeted.

The Unda actor told investigators, “Only I and one other actor are being blamed; there are other major actors who use drugs too.”

Police Seize Phone, Investigate Financial Transactions

As part of the ongoing probe, Shine’s mobile phone has been taken into custody. Investigators have reportedly discovered suspicious financial transactions linked to him, with around 14 transfers ranging between ₹2,000 and ₹5,000 under scrutiny. While the police suspect these may be connected to drug purchases, Shine has stated they were simply loans to acquaintances.

He also noted that increased police surveillance at filming locations has made drug access more difficult.

Further Interrogation on Hold

Though Shine was initially summoned for questioning on April 22, he requested to appear on April 21 instead—a request the police approved. However, he was later informed he did not need to appear immediately. Further interrogation will be scheduled only after a review meeting led by Commissioner P. Vijayan, who was not present during Shine’s recent questioning.

Allegations of Antidote Use

During his last round of questioning, Shine admitted to drug use and subsequently underwent a medical examination. Police now suspect that he may have taken antidotes to mask drug traces in his system, potentially complicating detection.
